Russian Export Center: Russia’s car exports rise 30% in Jan–Aug

MEXICO CITY, Oct 24 (PRIME) -- Exports of Russia’s car industry increased by about 30% on the year in January–August, Pyotr Fradkov, CEO of the Russian Export Center, told PRIME late on Monday.

“Exports of our car industry are growing seriously. Over the past seven or eight months, exports grew by about 30%, it is a big number, but on the other hand, we understand the low base effect. Still, the figure is serious,” he said.

The center has supported exports of cars to Cuba.

“We have a large U.S. $200 million project to export Kamaz trucks. This is the first project to export Russian Kamaz trucks to Latin America that has happened over many years. The cars have already been exported, they are rolling all over Havana now. This delivery is accompanied by construction of a servicing center, which is very important for us as we want to hold on to this market,” he said.

The center is starting operations in Mexico gradually. “I mean UAZ exports in the first place. We are working in other countries of Latin America, but examples of Kamaz, UAZ, and AvtoVAZ to some extent will be a showcase for the Latin American countries. We are now going to Paraguay and Colombia, we may offer these options there as well,” he said.

He also mentioned a large-scale upgrade of Cuban railways that Russian Railways was implementing. “Russian Railways is in negotiations with the Cuban side. We are organizing a some financing there, it is a very large project for the next several years,” he said.
